Ten Mile sits on Meridian's west side, about ten miles from downtown Boise, and most of what's getting built or remodeled out here is newer construction: master-planned neighborhoods like Lochsa Falls, Paramount and Bridgetower, plus infill and additions closer to Old Town Meridian.

That mix means two different kinds of debris jobs. New-build cleanup and renovation tear-outs in the newer subdivisions, and smaller remodel or demo jobs on older lots near the center of town. Either way, construction debris doesn't fit into the containers and programs the city already runs for households, and it comes with its own permit questions.

What the city already covers, and where it stops

Meridian residents get curbside service through Republic Services, plus ten free bulky-item pickups a year for single-family homes. That program is built for furniture and appliances, not jobsite debris, and it explicitly excludes construction and demolition waste, along with tires, hot tubs, pianos and bathtubs.

The city also runs seasonal events: Trash or Treasure in spring, Recycle a Bicycle, Rake Up Meridian and a leaf drop-off at Discovery Park in fall, and tree composting in winter. Good programs, but they're sized for yard waste and household junk, not a gutted kitchen or a torn-off deck.

Once a job involves drywall, old cabinetry, flooring, concrete or framing lumber, you're past what any of those programs are set up to handle. That's the point where a dumpster or a hauler who'll load it for you starts making more sense than trying to work it into bulky pickup.

Permits and the street out front

A straight remodel usually doesn't need a debris-specific permit, but demolition work does. Meridian Building Services, part of Community Development, issues demolition permits along with permits for sheds, garages and mobile homes, and applications go through the city's Citizen Access portal.

If a dumpster is going to sit anywhere other than your own driveway, check before it shows up. ACHD, not the city, owns Meridian's streets, and a container parked in the roadway, on the sidewalk or on the shoulder needs an ACHD right-of-way permit.

One more that trips people up: there's no burning construction debris anywhere inside city limits. Meridian only allows irrigation-ditch burning and small recreational fires, and burn barrels are prohibited county-wide. Debris goes to a landfill or transfer station, not a burn pile.

What typically comes out of a Ten Mile job

In the newer subdivisions, jobs tend to run toward garage and attic cleanouts, kitchen and bath updates, and the builder-grade materials that come out when those get swapped for something better. A lot of these homes also sit under an HOA, and some have CC&Rs that touch on where a container or trailer can sit on the property, so it's worth a quick check before one lands in the driveway.

Closer to Old Town, older and smaller homes can turn up material worth a second look before it's hauled off, older solid wood doors and trim in particular.

None of this is complicated, but it's easy to assume your old bulky-pickup slot or a weekend trip to the transfer station will cover a renovation when it won't.
